Were you at the launch of My Unique Child?
The first book of its kind in Singapore, My Unique Child was launched at a public book launch party on Saturday, 25 August 2018. Graced by the presence of the CEO of St Andrew’s Autism Centre, the principal of Mountbatten Vocational School, and the principal of Rainbow Centre, the event was attended by over 60 people and well-received across the various groups.
Author of My Unique Child, Ms Jasmine Goh opened the session with an interactive game that got everyone out of their seats and trying their hand at the various activity stations manned by volunteers. Social enterprise Hua Hee, in support of My Unique Child, engaged attendees at their activity station with their card games.
Attendees then had the opportunity to listen to a heartfelt sharing from invited speaker, Mr Thia, father to an autistic child who is now 29 years old. (Watch out for a later post on this.)
Families present at the event also gleaned useful tips from invited speaker, Mr Lim Seng Yong, financial consultant to special needs families. Attendees then learnt more about special education (SPED) from invited speaker, Mr Ernest Toh, principal of Mountbatten Vocational School.
As publicised, $8 from the sale of each book at the event will go to a local SPED school that provides workplace training for young adults with disabilities. Mountbatten Vocational School (MVS) has been chosen to benefit from the collections. A total of $500 was raised and will be donated to MVS.
